It’s just a short drive to the farms on the outskirts of medieval Siena where you find Casa Marco in a wonderful location embracing the countryside with olive groves, wheat fields, and large farmhouse villas that sit where the land rises. While this lovely feeling of openness carries over to the property, thanks to the furnished poolside terrace stretching the width of the house, its fenced grounds also give it a sense of protected privacy. Casa Marco is the perfect house for family reunions – not too elegant to feel stiff, yet equipped with all the elements that ensure a relaxed comfortable vacation with space enough for everyone.
Originally built as a barn, Casa Marco’s formal entrance is into a front hallway, while the life at the house happens along the side. From this sweeping terrace two French doors lead into the bright eat-in kitchen and to the living/dining room with a sofa-group and comfortable furnishings, an open fireplace and a dining table that expands to seat up to 10. There are two large double bedrooms and a small single bedroom on this floor, also a bathroom and a shower room. A staircase off the front hall leads up to the upper floor with two double bedrooms, one has an en-suite shower room, a single bedroom and an additional shower room. All bedrooms have colorful bedspreads and good country furniture and all the modern shower rooms are nicely tiled and fitted with folding shower doors, which allow more space and dryer floors.
Out in the well-tended grounds you find generous space for dining, play and relaxation on the spacious terrace with sun-beds and a furnished gazebo that overlooks the pool. Outdoor lighting around the property and in the pool allow you can linger over al fresco dinners and continue to splash the night away. Newly installed on the lower level of the house is a home spa with jacuzzi, sauna and cascading shower that all guarantee a relaxed end to your busy day. And just to make sure, on request, the owner can organize a professional massage on site.
Even with all this relaxed country feel, Casa Marco is only a few minutes from the nearest coffee bar and market and about ten minute drive from the city center. Famous for its Palio horse race and the spectacular shell-shaped piazza Il Campo, Siena was once a strong rival to Florence and a protector of the Via Francigena trail for pilgrims heading to Rome. Siena’s winding streets and gorgeous architecture have survived the ages to delight the modern traveler. Whether you spend hours exploring the city center, follow the trail out to the wine hills, or simply lounge by the pool, this corner of Tuscany is guaranteed to please.
Guests are invited to use the facilities in the Spa on the lower ground level of the villa, and will only be charged for electricity consumed, as indicated on the meter. The pool is not fenced in so please bring a water alarm if you have young children.
