Description

The marvelous Villa Manafiore hugs a well positioned site on the gently slopes in middle of Tuscany. This villa faces west across the fertile Orcia Valley towards the majestic Amiata Mountain. A woodland to the east shelters the villa and the surrounding well-tended gardens. The villa is set on 2 floors and sleeps 9 people. The property includes several acres of vineyards and olive groves on this warm and private hillside. You would be spellbound by the panorama from the villa and the pool looking over the varied landscape dotted by farms, villages and hill towns. The Orcia Valley and the town of Pienza are both UNESCO world heritage areas, while Pienza is also visible from the villa. Pienza has a unique renaissance town plan and a magnificent palace built for the Pope Pius II, who was born here. This town was his summer residence in the 1460’s. The pretty hill town of Monticchiello is close to Manafiore, just 1 mile and a half away. Strong walls and towers are survivors of all the events during centuries. In this village are 3 restaurants and a cafe, also a small grocer, ATM and a few shops.

5 Bedroom Interiors at Manafiore

The ground floor of Villa Manafiore wraps around a large L-shaped sitting room with working fire-place, sofas and arm chairs. The entrance hall has a guest powder-room toilet. The dining room is set with a table that seats up to ten people. A pergola-covered terrace is directly outside the dining room and has a table with seating and views down the valley. The fully equipped kitchen with a large pantry serve the villa well. This kitchen was installed when the owner lived and entertained here, but it is now a few decades old, while still in good working condition. From the kitchen you have access to the courtyard and from there to the delightful covered outside dining area opposite the pool.

From the billiards room you enter the simple bedroom on this ground floor with a wide single bed and its own shower-bathroom.  There’s a second shower room and toilet here as well. The splendidly appointed laundry room has washer and dryer, ironing board, and also a well stocked linen closet.

Upper Floor Villa Manafiore

The generous sitting room on the upper floor has furniture around a fireplace. This room has several other seating areas and a good table to play cards and board-games on. You have the convenience of a kitchenette for drinks, coffee and breakfast on the side of this living room. The 2 master bedrooms come with fireplaces, writing desks and dressing rooms. One even contains a sofa-bed. Both master bedrooms have a bathroom with a tub and separate walk-in shower. The 3rd bedroom has 2 wide single beds and a shower in the bathroom. The 4th bedroom on this upper floor is a double bedroom, also with a shower in the bathroom.

Garden and Pool at Villa Manafiore Tuscany

Large slabs of stone pave the courtyard that is the home of numerous terra cotta pots with flowering and aromatic plants. A wide covered patio with a brick pizza-oven and a BBQ grill opens to the courtyard. The adjoining alcove faces the pool is a sheltered dining area with a table and chairs for 10 or more people. The swimming pool is 60 ft x 12 ft (18 x 4 meters) with seating ledge underwater. Chaise lounges line along the poolside and at the end of the pool is another pergola-covered dining area with a round table. You can also heat the pool water, but with extra cost.

History of Villa Manafiore Tuscany

The origins of this structure go back to the 9th century; over a thousand year ago. Manafiore was built as a watch tower to overlook the pilgrim roads down the valley. This tower grew over the centuries with buildings added on, and still by the 1950’s it probably housed several farming families. Then the building remained empty for a few decades. It had turned into a ruin, until 1989 when the current owner finally rescued it. She brought it back to life with an extensive rebuilding project using mainly traditional materials.
