Osteria Etrusca

With all this good food around, sometimes only one important thing can make a restaurant stand out. Now I’m talking about hospitality. Our recent meal (May 2015)  in Chiusi was in the center of the old town, at Osteria Etrusca. Hospitality here is like magic; the charm, warmth and kindness of the owners, father and daughter, is beyond comparison. They both speak English. We sat at a covered outside table watching the street scene at the end of the day,… Read More

Ristorante il Garibaldi

While driving past San Quirico d’ Orcia, you’ll see Ristorante il Garibaldi at the Tamoil Petrol stop on (SS2) Via Cassia. This is one of our all-time favorite road-house truck-stops. After a brief closure it has been remodeled and reopened. Still they carry on the excellent special fish and seafood menu! Don’t miss this special treat! Located at the Tamoil Petrol stop on SS2, Via Cassia. Tel. 0577-898-315 ($$)… Read More

Mondo X Ristorante La Frateria

One of the most memorable foodie experiences we’ve had is near Cetona, where Mondo X Ristorante La Frateria, located at Convento di St. Francesco, puts on a supreme culinary feast in one of the most elegant and historical settings, with pris fix tasting menus and a’ la carte options. It’s been a few years since our last time at this fine establishment, but by now the cost must be past 100 euros per person for their extensive tasting menu. Best… Read More

Osteria del Merlo

Osteria del Merlo in Cetona is a superb restaurant and serious competition to the perennial Osteria da Nilo. It opened just a few years ago, and has already carved out a reputation amongst the Italian foodies. Located at the south-east corner of Piazza Garibaldi, just a dozen steps to the left from Nilo’s and around the corner from the cafe, you see a large stone tower with covered outdoor seating at the front deck, and inside you take a few… Read More

Osteria Vecchia da Nilo

Osteria Vecchia da Nilo in Cetona moved away a few years ago from the narrow alley to a much better location at the end of the main Piazza Garibaldi #33. Osteria Vecchia is now known simply as “da Nilo” (at Nilo’s), after the owner himself. This is still the same beloved local favorite in a newly remodeled building. Menu has fresh seasonal and regional dishes, superb homemade pastas, it’s all delicious food and great value for money. Our last lunch there… Read More

Trattoria La Pace

In Celle sul Rigo is Trattoria La Pace where we go for delicious home-style cooking, like eating at grandma’s house! Come here to enjoy excellent hand-made “pici” at this friendly family restaurant. Besides the pici and the meats cooked “ai buglione”, the menu also offers specialties like tagliolini all’ortica (= ribbon pasta with nettle sauce), spinach and ricotta ravioli and pasta with wild boar ragu. Everything is home made from traditional recipes of grandma Amelia. Lucia is the cook with… Read More
