La Grotta used to be our top choice for fine dining in Montepulciano. This is still the most pleasant restaurant with courteous professional service. But their high cooking standards have slipped a little in the past few years.
Why we recommend La Grotta?
Go there to enjoy the splendid Vino Nobile wines of the region with your lunch or dinner, they have a excellent wine list. Seasonal ingredients feature truffles, porcini mushrooms, and game. We like them for the delicate hand made pastas and the chef cooks a great rack of lamb for the main course. Delicious deserts, too. Some people think this is too posh and costly, but we find it very comfortable and perhaps just a little higher in prices then the norm. The quality of food at La Grotta is about the same as other restaurants but the wine list, splendid setting and great service still make this a good choice for a meal. I recommend the 6 course tasting menu at only 53 euros, with 2 people minimum order (was in 2017).
About Ristorante La Grotta and how to find it.
The 2 vaulted dining rooms are spacious and tables are placed far apart to allow for easy movement and privacy. They also have outside dining in a lovely garden setting, recently expanded. This can be a wonderfully romantic place in the evenings with candle light. Be sure to make a reservation for the outside tables. Easy parking in front. Our last visit was in May 2017. Location is next to the San Biagio church designed by Sangallo, below the town on the west side. Tel: (+39) 0578 757 479 or 0578 757 607. email: email@example.com ($$$)*
Open for lunch and dinner 6 days a week, closed on Wednesdays.
At this location we offer Villa Riccardo, a splendid country home with 5 bedrooms and pool.
