Tuscany Weather in January
You would probably be in Tuscany during the first week of January, from having spent the new year holidays here. While the weather varies slightly from one area to another, January is the coldest month of the year throughout Tuscany and you would feel it. The average high temperatures range from 9°C to 12°C. Snow is rare along the coast and inland valleys, but more frequent up in the mountains. When snow does fall, it usually melts quickly, except in the shady hills where it can cause slippery roads. Watch out for black ice especially in shaded curves.
Dressing up for Winter
If you visit Tuscany now you should bring a windbreaker and wool sweater or a warm coat, plus a hat, scarf and gloves. There isn’t much precipitation, only around 2 inches on average over in January but a waterproof jacket could come in handy. What you should keep in mind is that days are short. In January the sun rises just before 8 am and sets already before 5 pm. (Average max temperature: 11°C and average precipitation: 63mm).
