Tuscany Weather in October

Fall is in the air, making October a much loved time for visiting Tuscany. While there will be plenty of pleasant, sunny days, expect temperatures to be cooling and rainfall to be more frequent. Precipitation is averaging 4 inches in October. This means that we can have a shower every 3 days. You notice how the grass has come back to growing green. Colours of autumn are starting to appear, best seen in the vineyards, where the Vendemmia, the grape harvest is happening during the first half of this month. It’s also time for many harvest festivals, adored by city dwellers who would drive far to participate.

Cool and glorious October

Beginning of October is quite pleasant with temperatures around 20°C to 25°C, and cool evenings that dip well into the 50s°F. When we reach mid-October, daytime temps are usually just under 20°C, but can be much lower. Most days we still have lunch outside on a warm terrace, but there are days when the moody weather drives us indoors. This cool period brings spectacular autumn foliage especially to the wine regions and our private gardens. Great time for walks in parks and forests with deciduous trees and shrubs showing their colors. Therefore, October is a fantastic time to visit Tuscany. Plan to pack clothing that can be layered. Do include a windbreaker and a waterproof jacket so you wont get wet when it rains. (Average max temperature: 21°C and average precipitation: 96mm).
