Tuscany Weather in September

September usually starts with lots of warm and sunny skies, much like in August, but it probably won’t be too hot. We have seen global warming most clearly in September, which is becoming warmer than before. This can extend the pool season considerably, actually making September one of the best months to be in Tuscany. Fewer tourists and low rental prices help too. The pleasant evening temperatures are cooling the average highs down by few degrees to 27°C. But still, the warm days make it delightful to go to the beach and dip into the warm sea. Also, it’s a great time to enjoy dining outdoors. The bicycle riders are back, as we are heading for the pleasant days at the end of the month. The last week is usually the start of Vendemmia, the grape harvest in Tuscany.

Dressing for delightful September

In early September you might think it’s still like August and wear something light and airy but if you plan on visiting during the second part of September, you might prefer to wear thin attires in layers. Bring a light jacket or a cotton sweater for mornings and evenings, since it’s cooling down when the sun is lower. The low-temperature average is 16°C at this time. If you are packing a suitcase for a trip now, put in thin warm-weather clothing, but don’t forget to bring a few items for the cooler evenings and the even-handy windbreaker or some light waterproof jacket for possible showers. With average rainfall at 3 inches for this month, some showers are inevitable. (Average max temperature: 27°C and average precipitation: 76mm).
