Locanda il Paradiso
Locanda il Paradiso (Facebook, Tripadvisor) has been in Chiusure for decades (10 km to Asciano and also Buonconvento). It’s located on a square inside the village and offers a simple menu of good food with starters, soups and pastas at fair prices.
Why we like Locanda il Paradiso
Francesca and her family will greet you warmly and they serve food that is simply delicious. The menu has a very good selection of antipasti besides the pasta courses and desserts. Try the fresh tomato and mozzarella Bruschetta or the tasty Tuscan prosciutto paired with pecorino from Pienza. The hand made Pici (local long pasta) with pork Ragu is devine. The Pici Cacio e Pepe is Pici with creamy peppered cheese sauce. This is closest you get to the American favorite ‘Alfredo’ pasta sauce, which is unknown in Italy. Leave room for dessert, for the most excellent Panna Cotta with caramel, or the many cakes on offer. This is a great menu for vegetarians also. House wine is just right and above all, nothing on the menu is over 8 euros. Full disclosure, we live in this village!
How to find Chiusure and the Locanda
This humble local eatery has become the favorite place of frugal hiking groups and bicycle riders, so be sure to call ahead to make a reservation during summer. If you cannot get in here, try the pizzeria La Terrazza in this same village. Chiusure is about halfway between Asciano and Buonconvento, almost 10 kilometers to each. Next door is the famous Abbey of Monte Oliveto. Walk or drive into the village and you see Locanda il Paradiso with its covered terrace up front, and the great view down to the Abbey.
